C1 Driver Training FAQs
A C1 licence is the driving entitlement required to drive vehicles between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg, with a trailer up to 750 kg. This category is often needed for driving ambulances, delivery trucks, and horseboxes.
If you passed your standard car driving test (Category B) after 1st January 1997, you are not automatically entitled to drive vehicles over 3,500 kg. You will need to take a separate C1 driving test to gain this entitlement.
To begin your C1 training, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Hold a full UK car driving licence (Category B).
- Obtain a provisional C1 licence. This involves a medical examination with a doctor and submitting the necessary forms to the DVLA. We can help you with this process.
Our C1 training course is designed to equip you with all the skills needed to pass your practical driving test. The training includes:
- Practical, on-road driving lessons.
- Vehicle safety checks and defect reporting.
- Manoeuvring exercises, including reversing.
- Preparation for the practical driving test.
You need to complete a medical examination with a doctor and fill out the D2 and D4 forms from the DVLA. The doctor will complete the D4 form. Once completed, you send these forms to the DVLA to get your provisional C1 licence added to your existing licence.
The duration of the training can vary depending on your prior experience and how quickly you learn. Most of our students complete the course and pass their test within a few days to a week of intensive training.
The C1 driving test consists of two parts:
- Part 3a: The off-road reversing exercise.
- Part 3b: The on-road driving test, which includes a section of independent driving.
