CPC Module 4 Training FAQs
No. As of late 2021, the rules changed, and you can now go directly from a standard car license (B) to a C+E license. This means you no longer need to pass a rigid lorry (C) test first, which can save you both time and money.
A C+E license (often referred to as a Class 1 license) allows you to drive a large goods vehicle (LGV) with a trailer that is over 750kg. This is the highest category of HGV license you can get in the UK, enabling you to drive the largest articulated lorries.
To be eligible for training, you must:
- Hold a full UK car (Category B) driving license.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Obtain a provisional C+E license on your license. This involves a medical examination with a doctor and sending your application to the DVLA.
The duration of the training can vary. Most intensive courses are completed within 5 days, though it can take longer depending on your prior experience and the training provider`s schedule
The test is a practical driving exam that assesses your ability to drive a C+E vehicle safely and competently. It includes:
- ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ questions: You`ll be asked a few questions about vehicle safety and checks.
- Reversing exercise: You`ll be required to reverse the vehicle into a designated bay.
- Practical road driving: The main part of the test, where the examiner will assess your driving skills on various road types.
The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a qualification for professional lorry, bus, and coach drivers. To drive professionally, you need to complete a four-part process, with the practical driving test being part 3. After passing your initial test, you need to complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep your Driver CPC valid. The Driver CPC helps to improve road safety and maintain high standards of driving.
